We have strong links with the communities in which we work, and want to make an enduring contribution through charitable donations, sponsorship, volunteering and our employment and training opportunities.
Each year our team members choose a charity for us to support, often based upon personal experience. We take pride in raising the awareness of worthwhile causes and promoting fundraising activities such as sporting events, charity functions, cake sales and quiz nights. Since 2012 our staff have raised over £26,400 for charity.
State of Mind Sport
Our nominated charity for 2019 is State of Mind Sport. The charity uses sport to encourage people to discuss the issues of mental health and wellbeing and to encourage suicide prevention. To date we have raised over £9,750 with coffee-and-cake mornings, dress-down days and sporting challenges.
Our board of directors has offered to double all the money raised by staff, so the final total donation for 2019 will be nearly £20,000.
VGC’s charity for 2017 and 2018 was Samaritans: staff raised more than £7,130. Samaritans offer support to anyone who is struggling to cope with life: volunteers are available 24 hours a day on 116 123.
By the end of 2016, staff had raised £12,900 for Bloodwise (formerly Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research).
In 2013, we supported Mesothelioma UK, and we were delighted to donate over £6,360.
We support local schools and community groups, for example by providing raffle prizes.
