Daniel Cooke and Michael Jennings
Labour manager Daniel Cooke congratulates Michael Jennings on his NVQ

We know that people are central to our success at VGC.

So we encourage career and personal growth and make sure that our staff have the knowledge and experience to tackle urgent client projects when required.

For example, we have supported over 50 apprentices at Hinkley Point C where we are supporting client Kier Bam JV on the deep dig.

Mike Jennings gained a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Construction Operations and Civil Engineering Services in 2018. He works on earthworks on the VRS safety system. Michael said: “It was hard going at first, but all the hard work has paid off with this recognised qualification.”

See the staff section of our website to read more about people who are developing their careers at VGC.

The right people for each project

We plan workforce requirements with our partners and clients before projects start, so we have the right expert people for each project. We review staffing histograms and manage recruitment and training to make sure our teams have the right skills.

Trainee and lookout on railway

Because we work across a number of sectors, including civil engineering, rail, utilities, nuclear and M&E, we can cross-skill people to work in areas that are most suitable for them and for our clients. People know their skills are valued, and they enjoy sustainable employment and job satisfaction. And that means that VGC attracts and retains the best people.

We believe that local people should benefit from major projects, so we liaise with local labour brokerages to encourage applications from the communities where we work. We are committed to equal opportunities in every aspect of what we do, and we help people from under-represented groups to find employment and to develop.

To support and encourage people into the construction industry, we offer

Our support for our people has led to our winning the Training award in the inaugural CECA Infrastructure 21 awards.
