VGC contract value
£130,000

As part of its contract to improve Maidenhead town centre, VGC was engaged by Balfour Beatty Workplace to lay high quality paving to the town centre arrival area. This work itself was located between Kidwells Park up to and including the area around Maidenhead’s famous “Boy with the boat” statue by Lydia Karpinska.

The scope included breaking up and removing existing tarmac paving, preparing the formation and laying the paving, which included hand-picked Chinese granite paving slabs, Tegular paving blocks and tactile units at interfaces with highways. In addition to this VGC carried out landscaping work adjacent to the paved areas involving grading, levelling, topsoiling and planting.

Significant focus was placed on managing the interface with local residents and the public. The work involved pedestrian diversions and closure of traffic lanes and by effective planning and sensitive liaison with local residents, the work was completed with minimal disruption.

The successful delivery of this contract demonstrates VGC’s capability to manage high quality work adjacent to public areas in busy town centre locations.
