Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced EHV Quotations Project Engineer to lead the technical and commercial development of bids and proposals for high-voltage and extra high-voltage substation projects (66kV).
This role combines strong technical expertise in HV/EHV substations with commercial awareness, ensuring accurate, competitive, and compliant quotations aligned with client requirements and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of technical and commercial quotations for HV and EHV substation projects (66kV).
- Review client enquiry documents, specifications, and drawings to define project scope and submission requirements.
- Develop preliminary designs, single line diagrams, layouts, and general arrangements to support tender submissions.
- Prepare technical specifications for primary plant including transformers, switchgear (AIS & GIS), CTs, battery systems, protection and control equipment, and associated accessories.
- Produce detailed cost estimates covering materials, equipment, subcontract services, labour, and site activities.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain compliant and competitive quotations.
- Evaluate supplier proposals to ensure technical compliance with client specifications and current legislation.
- Identify project risks and opportunities, including technical, commercial, and programme considerations.
- Support value engineering initiatives to enhance competitiveness while maintaining compliance and quality.
- Collaborate with internal design, procurement, and project delivery teams to ensure smooth handover from tender stage to project execution.
- Attend client meetings and technical clarifications during bid and negotiation stages.
- Ensure all quotations align with company procedures, quality standards, and commercial targets.
Requirements
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with at least five years of relevant HV/EHV experience.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience
- Strong technical knowledge of HV and EHV substations (66kV), including AIS and GIS systems.
- Experience in preparing or supporting technical bids and cost estimates for substation projects.
- Good understanding of plant specification, load calculations, rating studies, and substation layouts.
- Familiarity with protection and control systems, cable design, earthing systems, and electrical clearances.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting client technical documentation and enquiry packages.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to assess risk, margin, and programme impacts.
- Strong knowledge of relevant engineering standards and technical policies relating to HV/EHV plant and substations.
- Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements within a design and construction environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel as required.
