VGC is shortlisted for the Construction News Diversity and Inclusion Excellence award.
The award, sponsored by Trad-UK, recognises industry-leading efforts to develop a diverse and inclusive workforce culture.
VGC is one of just eight shortlisted in the category. The other shortlisted companies are Kier Construction, Kier Highways, Sir Robert McAlpine, Imtech, Encon Construction and Willmott Dixon.
Group services director Ciara Pryce said: “It is good to have such positive news at this difficult time. We are delighted to be shortlisted for this Construction News award for our work to support ex-offenders into construction careers. Go beyond the gates creates employment opportunities and avoids exclusion by giving ex-offenders a second chance.”
Our Go beyond the gates programme, led by CSR manager Kimberley McGinty, gives some of the UK’s most vulnerable people the chance to gain a sustainable career in construction. During 2019, VGC supported 1109 offenders, with five volunteers visiting 17 prisons. By the end of the year, 27 ex-offenders were working on VGC sites across the UK.
All the shortlisted companies are listed on the CN Awards website. The next stage of the judging process will be a presentation on 18 May. The final winners will be announced at the Construction News awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 14 October.
This follows our shortlisting for the CN Specialists community engagement award. The CN Specialist awards winners will be announced on 17 November. The awards event was postponed from March because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
