Rock Osayomwanbor, ganger, key influencer
Rock started at VGC as a traffic marshal on the Blackfriars bridge Thameslink project in May 2010. He is now a ganger on the Anglia Crossrail project, where he is also one of two key influencers on site.
VGC has invested in Rock’s career with training courses in manual handling, streetworks, LUCAS, and he has worked on a number of VGC’s Crossrail contracts, including Liverpool Street station and Whitechapel. He worked mostly as a slinger signaller, joining the Crossrail Anglia contract in October 2014.
After Rock attended site supervisor safety training course in November 2014, he was promoted to ganger in June 2015.
Rock also attended VGC’s intensive three-day key influencer training course in June 2015. Our key influencers are safety champions selected from our workforce. They play a major part in VGC’s Be Safe by Choice programme, improving safety performance throughout all our work areas.
He received a commendation in August 2015 for stopping people walking into an unsafe environment and for good safety practice on site. The whole VGC team was commended by main contractor Costain in September 2015 for site tidiness and good site practice, leading by example.
Rock is currently working on his NVQ level 3.
Nick Wells, labour manager, said: “Rock is a person who always gives 100% and will go the extra mile where necessary, so his promotion was well deserved. He is very conscious of safety – his own and that of people around him – and that makes him an excellent key influencer.”
