Windsor Castle is the largest royal palace in the world and has been continually occupied by the English royal family for over 900 years. It is an important royal ceremonial location and is visited by around one million tourists from all over the globe every year. In September 2011 VGC was delighted to be awarded the contract to replace footways around the castle by Balfour Beatty Workplace who has a framework contract with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

The work comprised the phased removal of old and uneven footways around the castle and their subsequent reconstruction using natural York stone. Some of the work involved lifting and realigning displaced granite kerbstones. In order to mitigate disruption to the many tourists who visit the castle, the work was planned and managed to maintain safe pedestrian access at tall times.

VGC completed the work on time in January 2012 having successfully managed the interface with the public in this very visible location. VGC was pleased to be entrusted with this prestigious contract at Windsor.
