VGC Labour Solutions was appointed by main contractor Balfour Beatty in 2012 to supply labour resources for the Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace improvement scheme.

VGC has provided specialist railway track gangs to undertake the permanent way remodelling works, and civil engineering labour for the construction component. Civil engineering works have involved refurbishing existing structures, the construction of new bridges and earthworks and drainage for the new passenger railway line. Alongside this VGC has been heavily involved in the railway staging works necessary for the delivery of the project.

The Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace improvement scheme will  remove the bottleneck on this part of the East Coast Main Line, which links London and Edinburgh via Leeds, York and Newcastle. The work involves the upgrade of a goods line to create a second passenger route into London from Alexandra Palace via Finsbury Park. The route will not only ease congestion across the rail network but also improve the reliability of services at Alexandra Palace. An upgrade of track on the second slow line out of London between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace will also allow faster, more regular passenger services to operate in this direction.

VGC Labour Solutions has worked on Britain’s railways for over twenty-five years and is one of the foremost labour supply contractors in the UK. We hold all the required Link-up accreditation and our labour is fully competent and experienced in undertaking this type of work.
