London Underground is spending over £3billion upgrading its subsurface network. The Metropolitan Line will benefit from new air conditioned rolling stock, which together with infrastructure improvements will offer its customers a faster and better travelling experience. As part of this upgrade VGC secured a contract directly with London Underground to modify its signalling installation at the western end of the Metropolitan Line.
VGC’s work included the construction of signalling bases and cable route works to support the legacy signalling changes required to accommodate the longer trains.
In successfully completing the contract VGC demonstrated its capability of carrying out civil works for signalling modification contracts on a strategic commuter railway network. Undertaking such work in the challenging London Underground railway environment further underlines VGC’s railway construction capabilities.
