We were originally engaged to install the drainage at the new school development at Newlands House school. The scope was later expanded to the entire civils package, including paving and landscaping.
We helped the school to get best value for money by assisting with scope reduction and suggesting alternative materials.
Our works included the construction of an artificial grass open play area for ball games, a soft play area, the paving below a steel and timber structure covered area, and flower beds. We:
- removed 700 m3 of materials from site
- imported 700m3 of aggregates
- installed storm, foul water and electrical services
- laid 900 m2 of permeable and non permeable paving
- laid 350m2 of artificial grass
- laid 120m2 of soft play area.
This project was part of a development to Newland House school, next to the existing school building. We worked with the client to achieve programme despite more than 40 variations and scope changes.
The entire project was achieved on time, for less than the client’s original budget, with no accidents.
The project was complete in time for use by the pre-preparatory children on the first day of the autumn term 2016. In fact, it was the very first day of school for 60 new pupils.
Mrs Chong, head of pre-prep, said:
We have been very fortunate to have a professional, diligent and conscientious construction team delivering the project.
The new paved rainy-day play and outdoor learning area, and the open area for soft play maximise safe outside space for the children. They are enjoying them very much.”
