We created new crossing points, and improved existing crossings across busy Tower Bridge Road.

We were engaged as civil engineering contractor to upgrade and refurbish the traffic signalling and pedestrian management infrastructure in this busy part of London’s tourist route.

The highways refurbishment scheme to improve traffic flow included paving, and relocating ducting and foundations to upgrade traffic signalling.

Our works included

  • 400m2 of York stone paving
  • tactile paving
  • 100m ducting and six associated boxes
  • traffic island works.

The timescales were strictly controlled to coincide with BAM Nuttall’s works on Tower Bridge itself. We interfacing closely with the BAM Nuttall team to manage the logistics including pedestrian and traffic management. Our collaboration on deliveries and access ensured all works could finish as scheduled.

VGC health and safety noticeIn this high-profile tourist area our team was particularly careful that all signage was clear and easy to understand. We ensured all barriers were secure and well-maintained.

Cable avoidance

VGC operates a stringent permit-to-break-ground system. We developed this in collaboration with CVU.

Our careful checks showed a number of services which were not located at the right depth, or installed as shown on the charts. Our teams used ground penetration radar before any digging, which was always done using full PPE, and insulated tools, to keep everyone safe.
