This project involved replacing the old footway which had deteriorated.

We repaved 850 square metres of footway and reinstated 250m of kerbing. Areas were widened to allow easier passing points. In addition, we built a speed table vehicle crossover (entry treatment).

This scheme was on Upper Clapton road between Clapton station and Bsix Brooke House sixth form college. All our workers took particular care during the morning and afternoon periods when teenage schoolchildren were passing, to ensure children did not put themselves at risk.

VGC’s project team liaised with local businesses to keep disturbance to the shops on the route to a minimum. The completed works have enhanced the area to support local business.

The TfL contracts manager and CVU management complimented the teams on the work.

VGC worked on this TfL central London Highways Alliance contract on behalf of CVU. CVU is a joint venture between Colas, VolkerHighways and URS (now AECOM) that provides a fully integrated highways service to local authorities. This includes traditional highways maintenance services, emergency response, inspections, design services and the delivery of capital investment and asset renewal schemes.

CVU JV has been appointed to the central London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC), which is one of four area-based joint highway contracts awarded by TfL and the London boroughs. Boroughs can use the LoHAC to avoid the need for each authority to separately appoint contractors to undertake works. The aim is to reduce costs, provide consistency in the quality of works and materials and to minimise disruption.
