Health & Safety Lead
Working on Rail Frameworks (Merseyrail & TfGM)
Based in Liverpool & Manchester
£400 – 450 per day

About the Role:
– Reporting directly to the Head of Health & Safety, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of health and safety compliance across a diverse portfolio of rail and civil engineering projects. Working closely with operational leads, you will provide practical support, assurance and leadership to help deliver projects safely, compliantly and efficiently.
– This is an excellent opportunity to work on varied and technically challenging rail infrastructure projects alongside experienced and supportive teams.

Responsibilities:
– Lead and promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture across the Merseyrail and TfGM frameworks.
– Monitor compliance with company policies, client requirements and statutory legislation.
– Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance monitoring across multiple projects.
– Support Framework Operational Leads with health and safety advice and guidance.
– Review and approve RAMS, safe systems of work and construction methodologies.
– Undertake incident investigations and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions and lessons learned.
– Support behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
– Monitor contractor performance and supply chain compliance.
– Produce health and safety reports, KPI data and performance metrics.
– Support client meetings, audits and regulatory inspections.
– Promote best practice across rail and civil engineering operations.

Requirements:
– IOSH Membership.
– NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) or NEBOSH Diploma.
– Proven Health & Safety experience within rail and civil engineering environments.
– Good understanding of CDM Regulations and construction health and safety legislation.
– Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and incident investigations.
– Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
– Ability to influence operational teams and drive positive safety behaviours.
– Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:
– Personal Track Safety (PTS).
– Experience working on rail projects
– Strong knowledge of heavy civil engineering activities including Lifting operations
– Piling, Excavations, Temporary Works and Earthworks
– Experience working within framework delivery environments.
– NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
