Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Junior Project Engineer to support the delivery of EHV work programmes and HV switchgear replacement projects across substations ranging from 11kV up to and including 166kV.
This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to develop project delivery experience within HV/EHV substation environments. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of EHV work programmes and HV switchgear replacement projects (66kV).
- Assist in coordinating design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of project schedules and progress reports.
- Monitor project documentation, ensuring drawings, technical submissions, and site records are controlled and up to date.
- Assist in tracking project costs, variations, and forecasting under the guidance of the Project Manager.
- Attend internal and client meetings, recording actions and supporting follow-up activities.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to support procurement and delivery of materials and services.
- Support risk management processes by identifying and escalating potential technical or programme risks.
- Review technical documentation and drawings to gain understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Participate in site visits to monitor progress, support issue resolution, and ensure works align with design and safety standards.
- Promote compliance with Health & Safety policies and CDM Regulations across all activities.
- Support change management processes, ensuring variations and updates are accurately recorded.
Requirements
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or working towards).
- Minimum 5+ years experience
- Some experience or placement exposure within HV/EHV substations or electrical infrastructure projects is desirable.
- Basic understanding of HV switchgear, primary plant, and substation environments (66kV).
- Familiarity with project delivery processes within engineering or construction environments.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop technical and project management skills.
- Awareness of Health & Safety requirements within construction or engineering environments.
- Full UK driving licence (or working towards) and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
