Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of EHV work programmes and/or HV switchgear replacement workstreams across substations ranging from 11kV up to and including, 66kV.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle, ensuring safe, compliant, on-time, and on-budget delivery of refurbishment, replacement, and network reinforcement schemes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of EHV work programmes and/or HV switchgear replacement projects (66kV).
  • Oversee multiple concurrent schemes including refurbishment, asset replacement, retrofit, and network reinforcement projects.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project programmes aligned with client delivery milestones.
  • Manage budgets, cost forecasts, and financial performance, ensuring projects meet margin and commercial targets.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in compliance with technical specifications, engineering standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Lead risk management activities, identifying and mitigating technical, commercial, and programme risks.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations, promoting a strong safety culture across all projects.
  • Act as the primary client interface for assigned workstreams, managing communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, designs, and method statements prior to construction.
  • Manage change control processes, ensuring variations are properly captured, assessed, and agreed.
  • Attend site meetings and provide leadership during critical construction and commissioning activities.
  • Support resource planning and capacity management across the programme.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across delivery processes and supply chain performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with significant experience in HV/EHV substation environments.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience.
  • Proven experience delivering EHV or HV switchgear replacement projects up to 66kV.
  • Strong understanding of AIS and GIS substations, primary plant, protection & control, and associated civil works.
  • Demonstrable experience managing multi-project workstreams or structured asset replacement programmes.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering standards, technical policies, earthing systems, and electrical clearances.
  • Experience managing budgets, cost forecasting, contract administration, and commercial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and Health & Safety requirements within construction and engineering environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and manage interfaces between design and construction teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and client-facing communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and leadership capabilities with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
