Senior Engineer / Agent – Rail Geotechnical Project
Covering Long Ashton, Bristol & Swindon areas
£375 – 425 per shift

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer / Site Agent to join a rail geotechnical project based around Long Ashton, Bristol, and Swindon. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong and proactive individual with proven experience delivering works in a rail infrastructure environment, ideally with a geotechnical focus such as soil nailing or slope stabilisation.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee construction operations and engineering activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
- Act as the technical lead for allocated work sections, managing and mentoring junior engineers.
- Undertake and verify setting out and surveying for construction works.
- Manage and review method statements, permits, ITPs, and quality records.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, design teams, and the client to resolve technical queries and maintain progress.
- Ensure full compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Supervise site labour and plant, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and as-built information.
Requirements:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc).
- Proven experience as a Sub Agent / Senior Engineer on rail projects – ideally with geotechnical or earthworks scope.
- PTS certification (mandatory).
- SSSTS / SMSTS (essential).
- CSCS card (mandatory).
- Strong understanding of temporary works, earthworks, and rail construction practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior staff.
