Site Supervisor
Based in Slough
Day rate £280 – £310 per day (Umbrella PAYE)
6-month contract – possibility of extension
We are seeking an experienced Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations on highways and civil maintenance schemes. This role requires strong leadership, a proactive approach to safety, and experience managing highway maintenance works including resurfacing, drainage, structures, and traffic management.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and promote a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture, ensuring the safety of workforce, road users, and the general public at all times.
- Supervise and coordinate highway maintenance activities in accordance with contract requirements and programme.
- Support the Principal Contractor duties under CDM Regulations and ensure full compliance with Construction Phase Plans.
- Conduct site inductions and enforce site rules and safe systems of work.
- Carry out pre-start checks including PUWER and LOLER compliance, welfare inspections, plant checks, and environmental controls.
- Ensure all Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Safe Systems of Work and Point of Work Risk Assessments (POWRAs) are in place and adhered to.
- Issue and manage permits for activities including hot works and excavation in line with safe digging procedures.
- Supervise installation of temporary works and traffic management in accordance with approved designs and Chapter 8 requirements.
- Undertake regular site inspections, deliver toolbox talks, and report accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Monitor site progress, resources, and productivity, reporting programme risks or change requirements to management.
- Maintain accurate daily records including labour, plant, materials, and subcontractor activities.
- Ensure any commercial or operational changes are communicated effectively and managed in line with contract change control procedures.
- Inspect and sign off works in accordance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), scheme drawings, and specifications.
Requirements:
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- NRSWA Supervisor
- Lantra 12D Traffic Management
- Experience and understand to read construction drawings
- Computer literate
- First Aid at Work
- Full UK Driving Licence (clean)
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience supervising highway maintenance or civil engineering works.
- Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of resurfacing, drainage, structures, and general highway civils.
- IT literate (MS Office and works management systems).
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Confident communicator with clients, stakeholders, workforce and members of the public.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple activities.
- Self-motivated with a proactive, solution-focused approach.
