Uxbridge students are on course with new careers in construction.
Students on the ‘Hard-Hat-Ready’ course at Uxbridge College are about to start work for VGC. The two partners are helping people into new careers in construction and engineering.
After visiting the college in May, labour manager Richard Bright interviewed candidates for local jobs including at Heathrow airport.
Jamshaid Salim will start work at Terminal 3 this week. He applied after the presentation by Richard and Kimberley McGinty, VGC’s project co-ordinator. “I was very impressed by the career opportunities which VGC offers. It’s a company where if you put in the commitment, you can really grow and develop in whichever direction works for you.”
Student Faizel M Farah (pictured above L chatting to Richard) also praised the partnership: “Giles was very supportive and I enjoyed the training at Uxbridge College very much. I’m really looking forward to my new career with VGC”.

Uxbridge College’s ‘Hard-Hat-Ready’ training for the construction industry covers health and safety in a construction environment. It includes safe moving and handling, and emergency first aid, and prepares people to apply for a green CSCS – Construction Skills Certification Scheme – card. The card proves that people on construction sites have the required training for the work they carry out.
VGC is accredited to manage air-side passes for qualified staff. The company provides skilled people to Ferrovial Agroman, Mace and Morgan Sindall at Heathrow airport. Our workers recently finished the main tunnel entrance to Heathrow on a contract for BAM Nuttall, and they are currently involved in projects including the new Terminal 5 shop fit-out, the Bravo taxiway upgrade and a new underground baggage-handling facility.
