VGC was one of 64 businesses to receive a London Healthy Workplace award last night (Monday 18 November).
Businesses in London that show outstanding dedication to the health and wellbeing of their staff were honoured at a special event at City Hall. Dr Onkar Sahota, Assembly member and chair of the Health Committee, presented the certificate to HSQE adviser Fiona Dowling, who leads VGC’s team of mental health first aiders and workplace champions.
VGC’s programme of toolbox talks on mental health, wellbeing, diversity and fairness, as well as our evidence-led wellbeing action plan, contributed to our achievement of the award.
The London Healthy Workplace awards is an accreditation scheme led by the Mayor of London’s office and supported by Public Health England. It offers a template for good practice, and recognises London organisations which invest in their employees’ health and wellbeing.
The awards encourage businesses to develop wellbeing programmes across a range of areas. These include mental health and wellbeing, smoking, alcohol and substance misuse, improving physical activity and promoting healthy eating.
“We want better health for all Londoners,” said Dr Tom Coffey OBE, Mayor of London health adviser. “Creating and fostering healthy workplaces has benefits for both employers and staff. Improving physical and mental wellbeing leads to increased productivity and creativity.
“The London Healthy Workplace awards celebrate best practice, and also offer guidance for organisations to improve work standards. I’d like to congratulate all the winners for their great work.”
