VGC is part of the team which was recognised at the A14 Supply Chain awards on 12 January.
The integrated labour team was presented with the Innovation award.
Supply chain partners VGC Group, Reliable Contractors, Danny Sullivan Group and Hercules Site Services operate as an integrated labour team (ILT), which supplies appropriate labour resources to the integrated delivery team for the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme.
The ILT was described by the judges as “true innovators … challenging the way our whole industry works. They are not only demonstrating a desire for continuous improvement, but are changing their behaviours and utilising collaborative ways of working. This is game-changing for our industry.”
Chris Ryan, operations director, said: “We are all very proud to be part of the one of first integrated labour teams in the UK. I’m grateful to the A14 integrated delivery team for the opportunity we had to form the team, and to all members of the team involved in this ground-breaking collaboration on the UK’s biggest highways project. Thanks to labour manager James Burke for his dedication and drive in getting the ILT off the ground.”
About the project
Highways England’s £1.5 billion scheme to improve the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon will see 21 miles of this major route upgraded to three lanes in each direction. The A14 improvement scheme is managed by the A14 Integrated Delivery Team, a joint venture of Skanska, Costain and Balfour Beatty working on behalf of Highways England. One of the A14 project’s six values is Innovation: “We will be innovators and pioneers, creating a project with a lasting legacy. Daring to challenge, be creative and different. Continually striving for excellence and raising the bar in everything we do.”
