Lemos Pereria has started his apprenticeship on the A14.
Lemos (on the right in the photo, next to key influencer Rishi Khera) has joined our trail-blazer apprenticeship programme. He started on 16 March as a general operative, and VGC will enrol him on an NVQ in highways maintenance engineering.
The A14 IDT (integrated delivery team) is working with the Prince’s Trust on a ‘Get into Highways’ programme for 18 – 30 year olds. Candidates from within the local community started with a two week programme run by WATA (West Anglia Training Association). This was followed by two weeks’ work experience with the A14 teams.
“Lemos showed an excellent work ethic during the work experience, and we were delighted to sign him up,” said labour manager James Burke. “He’s enthusiastic and keen to learn, and he has good social communication skills. They’re possibly helped by the fact that he speaks four languages (English, Portuguese, French and Spanish)!”
Ongoing support
James will provide ongoing support to Lemos through mentoring Lemos, alongside VGC’s other six apprentices on the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme. They are also assisted by key influencer Rishi.
VGC is working in partnership with supply chain partners Reliable Contractors, Danny Sullivan Group and Hercules Site Services to form an integrated labour team supplies appropriate labour resources to the A14 integrated delivery team. Lemos’s apprenticeship is part of our commitment to upskill our operatives on the A14 project, to leave a lasting legacy when the project ends.
