Ben Keegan, our Health & Safety Manager is awarded the Love for Life Award

Costain, one of our projects joint venture contractors, carry out a Bi-Yearly leadership impact day. This Leadership impact day the focus was on the theme of engagement taking opportunity to refresh our personnel on key Health and Safety issues relevant to them. The day opened with Costain’s Senior Leadership Team delivering a leadership message via Microsoft Teams focusing on the important of Heath and Safety and how as a collective we can driver a positive health and safety culture across the projects where we have influence and leadership.

As part of the impact day Ben was invited to attend the Love for Life workshop within the Tunnels & Shafts section of the SCS HS2 project.

The meeting focused on creating an engaged workforce where speaking up is welcomed and promoted.

Important data was shared within the meeting on the numbers across the project that have attended the Love for Life behavioural based training. Their were discussions around what impact the training has had including further support that would be needed in the future, to assist in the delivery of future behavioural based training modules.

On the day, the teams also broke out into smaller groups within the session to discuss issues they have faced in the workplace. As a result, it was discussed what can be done better on the project and how the work force feel about feedback and decrease the issues raised. Each group wrote there findings down and shared them within the group.

The sessions provided good insight into what could be done on the project and implemented to create a more engaged, open work force who feel more supported when raising issues or concerns.

Once this activity had been completed SCS then gave out Value Awards for the support that individuals had given to SCS to help in delivery of their behavioural based training course, called Love for Life over the past 12 months.

Ben was selected for this award due to his involvement and support across the project which was handed out by the SCS Senior Leadership Team.

“I felt proud for receiving this award due to the amount of time and effort I had put into this program over the past 12 months. To receive an award like this shows the project is invested into the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of all involved in the project and I am keen to continue my recognised support” – Ben Keegan, VGC Health & Safety Manager
