In September 2020, VGC supported me to enroll on a 2-year HNC qualification apprenticeship in Construction Quantity Surveying at London South Bank University. I have now successfully completed my HNC qualification and End Point Assessment.
I joined VGC four years ago, with no previous construction experience, as an Operations Administrator, and was eager to learn and take on more responsibility. I found myself particularly interested in what the Commercial Department entailed and started shadowing the Quantity Surveyors and assisting with commercial administrative duties.
Four years later, I have obtained my CSCS card and I am visiting many of our construction sites and seeing our works being carried out first-hand. I am assisting with site measures, submitting monthly application for payments on NEC contracts, assessing subcontractor applications and processing for payment, attending client meetings with commercial leads, drafting and submitting early warnings and notice of compensation events, attending internal progress and programme meetings, and liaising with specialist subcontractors.
On 27 September 2022, I attended my first week of study at the University of Westminster, where I will be gaining my BSc Honours qualification in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. I have really enjoyed expanding my knowledge and responsibilities at VGC. Having gained this experience and seen first-hand the challenging yet rewarding role of a Quantity Surveyor, I am passionate and committed in pursuing my long-term career, and I am looking forward to gaining my BSc degree.
I am very grateful to VGC for the support they have provided me and for giving me the opportunity to develop my career.
