Thomas Geraty, HSQE Data Analyst

Last week, HSQE Data Analyst, Thomas Geraty, was accepted into college to begin his Level 3 apprenticeship as a Data Technician which commences in March 2024 and will last for 18 months. It is anticipated that he will then progress to complete the Level 4 apprenticeship in Data Analytics thereafter.

“The reason I chose the apprenticeship is because data was something that I’ve always enjoyed working with. Up to very recently my data skills were limited to basic excel but VGC put me on a PowerBI course and I have learnt a range of different uses for data and realised it’s massive potential in the industry. As such, it’s something that I wish to continue learning about and hope that the apprenticeship course will be the key to my personal development in the subject.”

Using the knowledge gained on his PowerBI course, he applied his learnings to our HSQE data, and recently joined a VGC board meeting to present leveraging Power BI for real-time HSQE performance data in order to enhance our decision making processes.

Thomas is particularly looking forward to the coding and programming aspects of his apprenticeships, as well as learning how to use AI effectively.

After starting with VGC in 2021 in the resourcing team as part of the government Kickstart programme, Thomas has proved himself to be an invaluable member of the team supporting candidate attraction and onboarding processes, before moving to the HSQE team in his data analytics role.
