Last Thursday, VGC attended the 2024 Construction News Awards as finalists with Danny Sullivan Group (DSG), after both organisations set a new standard for collaboration in the industry and was shortlisted in our joint entry for Supply Chain Collaboration Excellence.
Our aligned mission and vision have allowed us to foster a collaborative partnership for over ten years on major infrastructure projects, including being the only two labour suppliers on all four sections of HS2.
“True supply chain innovation with traditional competitors collaborating for greater good, shared outcomes and critically better opportunities for their labour force.”
CN Awards Judging Panel
Championing and leading labour desks since their inception, our businesses, despite being competitors, have worked together in a true collaborative manner to deliver improved outcomes for our people, our clients, and the communities local to the projects we provide labour to.
In 2023, VGC and DSG collaboratively delivered:
- Over 750 NVQs
- Over £1 million investment in training
- 8 cohorts of collaborative HS2 apprentices
- 400 school engagement and volunteering hours
- Over 500 hours focussing on employability for hard to reach and underrepresented groups
Both organisations are FIR accredited, with DSG achieving level 5, and VGC achieving the CHAS ESG accreditation, both the first in the UK to so. We have both published carbon reduction commitments, complimenting our industry leading work in social value and EDI.
We work together to ensure that the wellbeing of our workforce is prioritised, delivering collaborative wellbeing support such as our Financial Wellbeing Initiative across HS2, and mental health first aiders from both organisations are available to all operatives, as well as delivering EDI and modern slavery training.
We were delighted to be shortlisted and attend the CN Awards as partners, and going forward we are excited about the future of collaboratively replicating similar collaboration on new projects, extending them into hard-to-reach regions and innovating, adapting and improving them.
Well done to our client, ALIGN JV for their winning submission in this category on the HS2 C1 Package, where more than 2,600 people have received training via the Hazard and Rehearsal Academy.
