Shortlisted for CECA Inspiring Change awards

We are shortlisted in two categories for the CECA Inspiring Change awards.

VGC Group has been shortlisted for the Inspiring Change Award (workplace category) and Kimberley McGinty, skills and employment adviser, for the individual inspiration award. (The photograph shows Kim delivering a fairness, inclusion and respect session to some of our key influencers.)

Supporting diversity and inspiring change

VGC Group wanted to make a step-change to their promotion of fairness, inclusion and respect (FIR) across the whole workforce, and to improve their ratio of under-represented groups. After incorporating EDI and FIR into the corporate objectives, VGC’s ongoing programme is expected to show industry-leading results in the next staff diversity survey.

Action Sustainability has delivered FIR training to our labour managers, and we are working in partnership with Diversity Hut, who recently trained our board of directors. Our trained FIR ambassadors offer support to everyone across our business, and we deliver FIR toolbox talks and presentations to the whole workforce on sites across the country.  Partnerships with organisations including the 5% club, BuildForce, FIR in Construction, NAWIC, Women into Construction and Samaritans have had impacts at all levels.

In just 14 months, Kim has developed VGC’s fairness, inclusion and respect (FIR) programme to an entirely new level. She has built relationships with over 40 partner organisations, and set up a range of initiatives to attract people from diverse backgrounds into construction. She’s an Enterprise Adviser, a FIR ambassador, and manages VGC’s partnership with BuildForce. She delivers FIR sessions and careers in construction presentations at weekend, day and evening events all over London.

The awards will be presented by Lord Blunkett at the Inspiring Change Conference on 23 May.

The FIR programme is funded by the Construction Industry Training Board. It is delivered by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and the Supply Chain Sustainability School, of which we are gold level partners.
