Social Impact

We are committed to delivering maximum social impact. We want to ensure that our people and local communities benefit before, during, and after the completion of the projects we work on.

From developing skills for the future, to leaving a lasting legacy in our communities, we seek to make a difference to the lives of the people around us.

We are building a better society through expert, sustainable and ethical construction services.

Talent Pipeline

We run engagement programmes that promote the employment opportunities within our sector and encourage new entrants to start their career with us.

From extensive school engagement and STEM programmes through to our ex-military, women’s and award winning ex-offenders programmes, we ensure there is a clear pathway and programme of support that achieves successful career outcomes.

Empowering Our Workforce

Everyone is on a programme of continuous learning, development, and wellbeing support to enable personal and professional empowerment in their chosen career.

The VGC Academy provides professional development programmes from apprenticeships, technical and vocational programmes through to CMI accredited management programmes and degree and graduate schemes.

Our health and safety programmes alongside our fairness, inclusion, and respect champions create an environment of empowerment and belonging.

Community Engagement

Ensuring our local communities maximise the benefits during the construction phase and achieve a legacy after project completion is a key deliverable in all our activities.

Our policy of community engagement and local employment are just some of the ways we achieve this.

Our volunteering scheme, ‘Go Beyond and Give Back’, ensures that our staff have the opportunity to become part of the investment in our community.

Ethical Conduct

Ethical conduct is part of our DNA. We promote ethics and transparency in every aspect of our business.

We have actively taken steps to ensure the eradication of Modern Slavery and have achieved the Ethical Labour Sourcing Standard and the Achilles Ethical Employment Certification.

Fairness, inclusion and respect (FIR)

We are fully committed to creating an environment where everyone can achieve their potential. Our industry benefits from being incredibly diverse, bringing together individuals with differing backgrounds, skills, and experiences. FIR ensures that individuals are treated fairly, that their voices are heard, and they are respected for their unique perspectives. A culture of fairness inclusion and respect ensures we are attracting the best talent into the industry, fostering teamwork and collaboration, and ultimately ensuring the successful delivery of our work.

We remove barriers to accessing employment and development activities, support people from under-represented groups to access opportunities, and promote equality of opportunity to all who work with and for us. We encourage everyone to share their expertise and support under-represented groups through regular volunteering activities.

VGC received the Inspiring Change award for ‘Inspiring Change in the Community’, at the Fairness, Inclusion & Respect Programme awards, recognising our recruitment, onboarding, and retention practices across all four sections of HS2.

We were also delighted to recieve our Level 4 accreditation in Fairness, Inclusion and Respect, and to acheive Level 5 (influencer) in areas of equality, diversity, and inclusion and social value in the CHAS Social Sustainability Certification.
