We’ve been shortlisted for two Better Society awards.
The Better Society Awards have shortlisted us for National Commitment to Skills and Training, and also National Commitment to the Community.
The awards are organised by the Better Society Network. They aim to reward commercial companies’ efforts to make a better society – organisations who are helping create a better, more equal, ethical and sustainable world for all.
National Commitment to Skills and Training
This category recognises work to help provide secure futures for people, including apprenticeships, grants and training. The shortlisted companies develop people to help them progress and to create a fair and productive society. Our entry described the VGC Academy and, in particular, our behavioural competency development programme.
Also shortlisted are:
- Aviva
- Co-op
- Hubbub and O2
- Open Kitchens
- Santander UK
National Commitment to the Community
This award is for companies that have helped communities across the country. The judges looked at how the organisations used their resources to create long-lasting impact. Our entry set out the way we support ex-offenders into sustainable employment through our Go Beyond the Gates programme.
The other shortlisted companies are:
- Class of Your Own Ltd
- FTI Consulting
- LifeSkills created with Barclays
- NatWest MoneySense
The seventh annual Better Society Awards will be presented at a ceremony in London on 2 December 2021.
Other awards VGC has won so far in 2021 include the Inspire award for the Most Inspiring employer, the Inspire award for Most Inspiring Employment Initiative, and the Energy & Utilities Skills Partnership award 2021. We have been shortlisted for the REC award for People Development Business of the Year, the CN Specialists award for Training Excellence, as well as the Construction News award for training excellence.
