Last week we shared posts on social media celebrating some of VGC’s women.
For International Women’s Day, we celebrated some of the many excellent women who work for VGC as technical, engineering, office and site staff. They include:
Karen Botchway – SHEQ project support
Karen is celebrating one year working on the Kings Cross remodelling project with Morgan Sindall.
During her construction career, Karen has completed training such as Prince2, management of risks, change management, and GDPR. She recently obtained her PTS (personal track safety) for the first time. She’s continued to learn both between and during contracts. Karen points out: “knowledge gained through training is never wasted, even if it is not in line with your career”.
The pandemic has meant that sites have had to change the way in which many things are done. Alongside her usual tasks, Karen has been involved in promoting and encouraging COIVD testing participation on site.
Working in construction is fun and rewarding.
Gabriela Bucsan – office admin assistant
Gabriela is working on HS2 phase 1 between London to Birmingham for Fusion JV, based in the Aylesbury office.
After completing a degree in Business Administration, Gabriela tried a series of different short-term jobs. This is Gabriela’s first role within the construction industry, and she is pleased to found a role where she feels she can make a long-term contribution. She says it is the best job she has had so far.
Never give up. If you feel it’s the right career path for you, go for it.
Eleri Newman – assistant historic environment research and delivery strategy (HERDS) manager
Eleri is working for Fusion JV on HS2 phase 1. She has been involved in the project for over three years.
Following university, Eleri was offered her current role where she has been able to pursue her passion for archaeology.
Not only is she working on the largest infrastructure in the UK, she is also part of the largest archaeological programme ever undertaken in Britain.
If working in construction is something you are passionate about, and something you want to do, then pursue it.
VGC office staff:
Bobbie Smith-Ball – recruitment consultant
Bobbie has been working for VGC Personnel since April 2019. She started as a resourcer and has since been promoted to a recruitment consultant.
She supplies both permanent and contract staff to the construction and infrastructure sector for a wide range of clients. Recent clients include Van Elle, VolkerFitzpatrick, Bam Nuttall and Keltbray.
Never feel discouraged to go after the career you want.
Rebecca Parfitt – business support lead
Rebecca joined VGC Personnel in June 2018 for a placement year as part of her degree.
She joined VGC permanently after achieving a first class honors in BSc Business and Management in July 2020. Since then she has been promoted to business support lead.
Don’t be afraid to venture outside of your comfort zone.
Heena Chatrath – senior recruitment consultant
Heena has been working for VGC Personnel for over eight years. She started as a recruitment consultant and was promoted to senior recruitment consultant.
She recruits professional and technical staff to leading infrastructure contractors both on a permanent and contract basis. Some recent clients Heena has worked with include Morgan Sindall, Amco, VolkerFitzpatrick and Bam.
There is nothing you can’t achieve if you put your mind to it.
