The VGC Group is setting standards for safety in the workplace across the construction and rail industry.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) awarded VGC its most prestigious accolade, the Gold Achievement Award, in recognition of our high levels of performance in keeping the workplace environment safe for our staff and contractors.
The achievement shows that VGC delivered strong results and demonstrated superb commitment in ten key areas of health and safety, including
- worker competence
- leadership
- risk assessment
- and effective communication.
The awards adjudication panel also commended us on our commitment to continuous improvement.
VGC Group chairman Sean Fitzpatrick was delighted with the award, and commented: “This award is a positive recognition of health and safety being an underlying culture of our business. This has been achieved through the commitment of staff to continuous improvement. It demonstrates our ability to innovate and exceed expectations.”
RoSPA’s mission is to save lives and reduce injuries. Dating back to 1956, the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards scheme recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention. The scheme looks at accident records, and also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.
David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager, said: “The RoSPA Awards programme provides well-deserved recognition for the winners and spurs on other organisations to raise their standards of accident and ill health prevention. We congratulate VGC Group on its success and encourage it, and all our other winners, to remain committed to safety and health, an approach that is recognised to be good for workers and the bottom line.”
We will attend the winners’ presentaton ceremony on 20 September in Glasgow.
