VGC is top of the contractors’ league table at Bond Street yet again – for August, as well as July, June, April, March, February and January 2014. We have also won the August subcontractor HSE award for our work on the M1 junction 19 improvement project.
These awards recognise the teams for their commitment to health and safety.
Costain Skanska, the joint venture managing the Crossrail Bond Street C412 contract, assesses seven areas of health and safety each month: our August win means that VGC has won the award seven times out of eight since its inception.
Skanska, managing the project to improve access for drivers between the M1, A14 and M6, gave us the subcontractor of the month award for August based on a range of health, safety and environment key performance indicators and for contributing to Skanska’s Injury-Free Environment campaign.
Laurence McKidd, managing director, congratulated the team: ”I’m delighted that everyone is playing their part in Be Safe by Choice, our behaviour-based safety programme which empowers people, especially key influencers, to play their part in making sure our work sites are safe. We’ve more than doubled the rate of close-call reporting since the programme began, and we’ll keep working to make sure that every single person goes home safely at the end of every shift.”
See our HSQE web area to find out more about the safety measures carried out by VGC.
Crossrail will serve 40 stations and run more than 100 km from Reading and Heathrow in the west, through new twin-bore 21 km (13 miles) tunnels below central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. See the Crossrail website for more information about the Crossrail works at Bond Street station.
The M1 junction 19 project will improve traffic flow at the intersections of the M1, M6 and A14. The project will ease congestion and delays by separating local traffic from long-distance traffic, and also includes refurbishment works to local roads. More about the M1 junction 19 works.
