Bobby Hayre, engineer and sub agent

Bobby Hayre joined VGC as a graduate, and is now an incorporated member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Bobby joined VGC’s ICE-approved graduate training scheme in 2015. In December 2019 he achieved incorporated membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is now a sub agent, running infrastructure projects for VGC.

Bobby is the first of our engineers to complete our graduate training programme and achieve full ICE membership.

Since joining VGC, Bobby has worked on a wide variety of civil engineering and rail infrastructure contracts throughout London and the south of England. His first major project was on the eastern section of Crossrail. VGC’s Crossrail Anglia project consisted of £15 million of civils works to enable the upgrading of the signalling system for the new Crossrail trains.

In 2018, Bobby managed a project to establish the viability of using a precast solution for motorway emergency reserves. The results of the project, for client Balfour Beatty, mean the solution may be rolled out across the UK.

ICE-approved graduate training scheme

Our graduate training scheme is run by Bob Webb, himself a Fellow of the ICE since 2015. He has experience of managing major rail and civil engineering projects over a long and distinguished career. Bob Webb said: “Bobby Hayre was a worthy candidate. He assiduously submitted the evidence to demonstrate the necessary attributes, plus maintaining his record of continuing professional development. During the last few years, the Institution moved to an online system of monitoring progress; Bobby supported the VGC scheme in the transition period. He also provided valuable feedback to the ICE to overcome teething problems.”

Project director Jacques Kriel said: “At VGC, we undertake a range of civil engineering contracts. Providing training for graduates fast tracks them into being significant contributors to the business, and also attract new recruits who view the company as a serious long-term career choice.”

Bobby said: “I was overjoyed to be able to put the initials IEng MICE after my name. I now enjoy supporting the training and development of VGC’s latest intake of graduates.”
