In January 2009 VGC was awarded the design and build contract for a new Network Rail relay room. This was part of the £25 million signalling upgrade on the East Coast Main line being undertaken by Signalling Solutions.
The work included the construction of tanked ground floor slab, a brick and blockwork building envelope, insulated pitched tiled roof, a raised computer floor, suspended plasterboard ceilings, mesh screening, internal and external joinery, decoration and mechanical and electrical services. Externally we constructed a new transformer compound and a storage facility for the existing Network Rail operating depot. Other external works included the provision of car parking, landscaping and footpaths.
This challenging project was completed within budget and on time and enabled the installation of the signalling equipment to be undertaken to meet the planned commissioning dates.
The Hitchin relay room project demonstrates our capacity to undertake turnkey building works in a multi-disciplinary environment.
