Thanks for Easter works effort

Thank you to the many VGC workers who put in long hours over the Easter weekend.

Most people spent the weekend hunting eggs, going to church, and spending time with family and friends. However, over 560 VGC team members were working full shifts to ensure planned works were successfully completed.

  • The VGC team completed extensive works at Crossrail Anglia for Costain. These included the successful installation of an under track crossing (UTX) and other aspects of line of route civils, while storm Katie battered the site.
  • VGC staff worked on the construction of the new Crossrail station at Abbey Wood for Balfour Beatty.
  • Around 160 VGC staff members were working in possessions for Track Partnership at Bromley by Bow, Mile End, Barking flyover and Liverpool Street.
  • Weekend works for Balfour Beatty included Crossrail works at Maidenhead and work at London Bridge for Thameslink.
  • The rail delivery teams delivered rail across the UK for Network Rail.
  • Teams worked on the northern hub programme for Siemens at Crewe, Birmingham, Banbury and Manchester.
  • At Whitechapel, the teams are still supporting the nine-day blockade for Crossrail. We are covering all shifts right through from Maundy Thursday to Friday 1 April for BBMV.

Matthew Steele, Crossrail programme director at Network Rail, thanked staff and contractors for their dedication during the Easter period. “Our orange army worked tirelessly over the Easter weekend to deliver a staggering amount of complex work.”
